Multidisciplinary Practice

At BLC, we believe that we can provide better client service as a multidisciplinary practice, and therefore our practice includes the following affiliate members:

• Susan M. Miller, CPA, CFP, Aurora Financial Advisors, LLC (financial planning, financial consulting, and tax advice)
• Richard N. Wolman, Ph.D. Psychomatrix, Inc. (clinical psychologist, guardian ad litem, consultant on family and children's issues)

In addition, BLC attorney Vicki L. Shemin, LICSW, J.D., is an individual/marital/family therapist, guardian ad litem, and parenting coordinator, and does prenuptial counseling.

BLC is one of the few firms in the United States that practices in this way. While there are large corporate law firms that have finance/investment subsidiaries, or employment/personnel services, BLC is unique in bringing together both financial and counseling expertise, and using that expertise to help our clients solve complex family, business, and employment issues.

The canons of ethics for lawyers impose three important limitations on multidisciplinary practices: (a) non-lawyers cannot govern the practice (i.e., the lawyers' independent judgment cannot by compromised); (b) the lawyers cannot share fees with the non-lawyers; and (c) the lawyers (and other professionals) must preserve the confidentiality of the client information that they receive. BLC scrupulously observes these legal and ethical rules.

Multidisciplinary practice (MDP) is a natural fit with collaborative law and dispute resolution, because it gives BLC better tools for addressing the full range of issues and interests involved in family, business, and employment disputes.
