Training

Several BLC members are experienced negotiation and mediation trainers.  We have designed and led such trainings for major corporations, insurance companies, lawyers, law firms, dispute resolvers, health care professionals, human resources managers, mental health professionals, law students, court personnel, and others.  We will design a training to fit the needs of your business or organization.

Negotiation Training – BLC designs and leads trainings ranging from an hour to a day on basic and advanced techniques for negotiating interest-based solutions that are typically better than those produced by competitive, positional bargaining.  (For a primer on successful negotiation techniques, click here.)

Mediation Training – We design and lead trainings ranging from an hour to three days on both basic and advanced mediation techniques.  Our 30-hour training for mediators meets the requirements of Massachusetts General Laws, chapter 233, § 23C, which provides for the confidentiality of mediation.  Our two-day advanced mediation training has been offered in Israel and the U.S.  Please see our Calendar, which contains information about our upcoming trainings.

Diversity Training - BLC affiliate Dina Beach Lynch is an experienced trainer in the area of diversity awareness.  She, along with other members of the BLC team, are available to design and present workshops to foster a greater understanding of differences in the workplace and in communities regarding race, gender, age, disability, and sexual orientation.  Please contact us for more information about such training.

ADR Advocacy Training - Twenty years ago lawyers rarely participated in mediations. Today it is a rare litigation matter in which neither the lawyers nor the court suggests the possibility of mediation.  While arbitration skills are similar to those that lawyers employ in court, mediation skills are different and require different training.  BLC offers a one-day training that prepares lawyers to succeed in mediation.  BLC member David Hoffman, who was a Hill & Barlow litigator for seventeen years, has taught hundreds of lawyers how to make the most of mediation by developing new negotiating tools, addressing the psychological dimensions of conflict, and designing a cost-effective dispute resolution process for each case.
